Introduction

In this blog I am going to talk about the life, career and work of David LaChapelle. His artistic ability stretches across a range of subjects and mediums, all of which captivate the viewer and take them into an imaginary world with no boundaries. LaChapelle is one of the most famous and sought after photographers and directors of the 20th Century. His work is extremely unpredictable and may not be to everyones taste. In fact, if you are easily insulted or offended I would not recommend you to look at his work or continue with this blog.

With his ability to shock and unsettle, LaChapelle's techniques and skills are unlike any other and inarguably amongst the most effective used in advertising, fine art, publishing, directing and theatre today. He has been compared to a new age Andy Warhol who was probably the most recognised pop artist of our time. In my research, I  have discovered an Irish photographer (Tony Kelly) who's work suggests that he was inspired by LaChapelle. Kelly uses the same shock tactics, similar props, lighting and scenery in what is become a very successful career.

I hope you enjoy following my blog and taking a step into the world of David LaChapelle, or more appropriately 'LaChapelle Land' (the name of one of Lachapelles books).
